The Let’s Talk: Animals App is a motivating interactive game designed to develop your child’s vocabulary. Your child will be shown flash cards of different animals and will develop his/her understanding and use of these words by responding to the simple instructions. Our Jelly Monster friend, Larry, will be on hand to offer encouragement along the way!

Lets Talk: Animals was designed by a team of experts lead by experienced Speech and Language Therapist, Elizabeth Holmes (BSc. MmedSci. MIALST). It is the second app in the series following the success of Lets Talk: Following Instructions (www.letstalkapps.ie).

During each game play your child’s responses will be monitored. When you end the game your child’s results are displayed automatically. You can tailor this game to your child’s ability.

How does it work?

Using the professionally recognised flash card method, your child is shown three animal pictures at a time and asked to identify one by touch. The app contains 50 animal photographs, presented on a non distracting white background.

Why does it work?

When playing the game your child will be developing the following language skills.

1) Vocabulary: One of the most effective ways to develop your child’s speech, is to improve the number of words your child can understand and use. Nouns are functional, motivating and typically the first words children learn. This app focuses on developing the noun category, animals. As we know, children are fascinated by all things furry and strange!

2) Attention and listening: Attention and listening skills are important prerequisites for language development - poor attention can act as a bottleneck to speech development. The Lets Talk: Animals app develops a child’s attention and listening skills by encouraging your child to wait, listen and respond.

3) Understanding: Improving understanding of vocabulary will in turn develop your childs speech. Understanding comes first. This app focuses on developing your child’s ability to follow simple instructions containing 1 main word; e.g. “tiger” in the instruction “shoe me the tiger”.
